IFA 2015 – Day 1 Offerings

This will be more picture gallery than full article, since there were so many unveilings today in Berlin. It seemed to be a day for the Asian manufacturers, so the following is a quick glimpse of today’s announcements.

From Asus:

The ZenWatch 2 follows up on one of the most popular of the 1st generation of Android Wear watches. The new model comes in two variants. The larger  49mm model, costing about $170 and the smaller 45mm, running approximately $190. Both will be available in October.

The ZenFone 2 Deluxe featuring a 5.5 inch 1080p display, 2 or 4GB of RAM and 16, 32, 64 or 128GB of internal storage (expandable up to 64GB via microSD card), Intel’s Atom Z3580 quad-core SoC and a 13-megapixel OIS camera with 3x optical zoom is available on the back. The Zenfone 2 Deluxe ships with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box with Asus’ ZenUI on top of it.

The ZenFone Zoom has 3x optical zoom for lossless non-noisy zoom and it’s touted as the thinnest optically-zooming smartphone ever. With a 5.5-inch 1920×1080 IPS LCD display coated in Gorilla Glass 4, 4GB of RAM, 64GB or 128GB of internal storage plus microSD expansion. An Intel Atom Z3590 processor at 2.5GHz powers everything, offering 4 64-bit cores and finally a 3000mAh battery.

From Acer:

A launch of eight new Liquid-series smartphones: six running Android 5.1 Lollipop and two based on Windows 10 Mobile.

Also shown off was Acer’s new Predator 8 gaming tablet, along with the Predator G6 and G3 gaming desktops.

From Lenovo:

Three new Vibe smartphones:

The Vibe P1 featuring a  5.5-inch IPS LCD full HD display, an octa-core 64-bit 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and microSD expansion up to 128GB. A 13MP rear-facing camera, a 5MP front-facing camera and a non-removable 5000mAh battery. The Vibe P1 runs Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box for about $279.

The Vibe P1m with a 5.0-inch IPS LCD Full HD display, a 1.0GHz quad-core 64-bit MediaTek MT6735P processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of on-board storage and microSD expansion up to 32GB. It has an 8MP main shooter, a 5MP front shooter, a non-removable 4000mAh battery and dual Micro SIM cards. Android 5.1 Lollipop. This plastic phone will run you $159.

The Vibe S1 comes with a 5.0-inch Full HD IPS LCD display, a 1.7GHz octa-core 64-bit MediaTek MT6752 CPU, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and microSD expansion up to 128GB. Also a 13MP rear camera, an 8MP main front-facing shooter and a 2MP secondary front camera. It also sports an aluminum frame with a 2500mAh non-removable battery. Like the P1, this device supports dual Nano SIM cards. $299.

 

From Motorola:

The long anticipated Moto 360 (2nd Gen) comes in both men’s and women’s models. A 42mm and 46mm. There’s also a sport variant that will become available at a later date.  Motorola has added traditional lugs to the watch, which will let you change out your watch band much easier. The power button has been moved to the 2 o’clock position.

Customize via Moto Maker. Multiple color variations. Pre-orders began today at Best Buy, Google Store and Motorola.com.

The Moto 360 Sport will be available sometime soon,starting at $299. It will feature a GPS, silicon band and an AnyLight display that will allow for easier reading in both light and dark situations.

 

As promised the Moto X Pure Edition was available for pre-order starting today. $399 for the 16GB version all the way up to as high as $525 for the 64GB version with a premium back, depending on your configuration options.

 

From Sony:

The Xperia Z5 series. There’s the regular Z5, a 5.2-inch handset, a smaller version of that phone, the Z5 Compact, and the 5.5-inch Z5 Premium, the first 4K display smartphone. The Z5 series of devices are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 processor with 3GB of RAM in the Z5 and Z5 Premium or 2GB in the Compact. A new 23-megapixel Exmor RS sensor sits in an f/2.0 Sony G lens. Sony claims it offers the fastest autofocus of any smartphone camera, focusing in just 0.03 seconds. All three run Android 5.1 Lollipop.

From Hauwei:

The long awaited Hauwei Watch has finally become available for pre-order today. Multiple variations are offered with various band options with pricing from 349 to $799, once again depending upon configurations options.

The Hauwei Mate S phone was announced. it packs a 5.5-inch 1080p display with 1.8M:1 contrast ratio. AND Huawei has beaten Apple to the punch by with Force Touch technology in the screen, allowing the phone to know how hard you’re pressing on the glass. There’s a  rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and a 13-megapixel rear camera with OIS. That’s paired with a 8-megapixel front-facing camera. Inside there’s an octa-core Kirin 935 processor along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Finally a 2,700mAh fixed battery in included. The Mate S will be available for pre-order from September 15.
