Sony’s offerings at IFA 2015

For all you Sony lovers out there (that includes me), your favorite time is here. Sony’s new flagship(s) have been released at IFA! Sony decided to go with 3 new phones unlike the 2 we are used to. There is of course the Z5, the iconic compact version, and now they decided to release a new variant too. The Z5 Premium.

The Z5 is the ranked in the middle when it comes to the specs of these three devices with a Snapdragon 810, a new and improved 23 MP camera, a 5.2 inch 1080p display (similar to the last generation), 3 GB RAM, a 2900 mAh battery (claimed to last 2 days) and expandable storage upto 200 GB. Sony also included a fingerprint sensor in all the devices. The scanner is incorporated with the new power button which is no longer in a circle shape but now ‘pill shaped’ and much larger. It keeps the classic Sony design which looks very sleek but I don’t appreciate the large bezels on the top, bottom and sides.

As we have seen before, Sony likes to make a compact version of their flagship for people who don’t like large screens. The design is very similar and specs are not cut down too much. The Z5 compact keeps the same processor and camera but only has 2 GB RAM, a 4.6 inch 720p display and a smaller 2700 mAh battery.

The last and my personal favorite is the Z5 premium. It has all the same specs of the normal Z5 except for a larger 3430 mAh battery. There is one other difference…a 4K screen. Yes, you read that right, a 4K screen. The 5.5 inch screen comes with 806 ppi! The Z5 Premium is the first ever 4K phone.

All three phones have fast charging and the new fingerprint scanner. Sony retains the front facing stereo speakers which give great sound quality and overall a great media experience. In case you were wondering, the Xperia Z5 s are still water and dust-proof but now the charging port is at the bottom with flap! I assume many people will be happy about this because, as an Xperia Z user, the flap is really annoying. Lastly the cameras have been bumped up to 23 MP and Sony claims that they have nailed the auto focus part as the Xperia Z5 has the fastest auto focus ever on a smartphone camera

This is what Sony is offering so far at IFA 2015 and I cannot say I’m not impressed. Make sure you catch George Hayes post about Day One’s unvielings at IFA!
