Samsung, LG and Moto – newest of the new

The new Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus have been revealed, preorders are up and the phones will be available on April 21st in the US and April 28th in the UK. I’m told you can already play with them in some Best Buy stores. Both are priced a little bit better than any of us thought they would be ($720 to $750 for the S8/$840 to $850 for the Plus).  With edge to edge, practically bezel-less curved displays, a Snapdragon 835 processor and an 18.5:9 aspect ratio (much like the LG G6), the new Galaxy’s look to be pretty awesome. Get your preorder in soon, if you want to get hands on quickly. I know that Joshua already has his on order.

Of course, the LG G6 came out last week and I have mine and expect to get my first video up on my Mobile Geezer channel tomorrow. Joshua already has videos up on the Joshua Bane channel with more to come, I’m sure. The G6 is also a pretty stunning device, also having an 18.5 aspect ratio. That allows the screen to be taller, but not wider, making it feel not so large in the hand. Of course, the super AMOLED screen of the S8 will outshine the G6, but both have beautiful displays. The LG G6 can be had for $650 and, I would say, it’s worth the price. Both the Galaxy S8 and LG G6 are water resistant (I won’t say waterproof) and have wireless charging.

Then there’s the newest budget offering, the Moto G5 Plus, available now. I also have that in house and expect to get the first video up on that tomorrow as well. I must say, for a phone with respective $230 and $300 price tags (even cheaper from Amazon, if you’re a Prime member and don’t mind a few ads on your lockscreen) , Motorola has a winner here in my opinion. I have the 32GB version, but you might prefer the 64GB, which is the more expensive. I must say that after 2 full days with the lesser version, I have had no stutters or issues of any kind. Would I recommend this phone? I just did, less than 5 minutes ago, to my son-in-law, who just broke his phone today.

That’s my quick, abbreviated summary of the three newest phones that I’m aware of. All winners, as far as I can tell though, like everyone else, I don’t have the S8. If I do get it at some point, it will be a little way down the road. But, if you’re subscribed to Joshua Bane on You Tube, I’m sure you’ll get plenty of Galaxy S8 coverage in the very near future.

So, at the very least, I’ve given you a starting point to go and do your research, if you’re in the market for a new mobile phone. The above are great phones at multiple price points. Look up the specs, go check them out in the stores and get the one that best suits your needs, desires and pocketbook.
