LG G6

LG G6 – on the way

So, I pre-ordered the LG G6 from T-Mobile, since March 22nd was the first day to do so. Of course, if your carrier is AT&T, Verizon or Sprint, you have been able to pre-order since Saint Patrick’s Day (03/17). Verizon has a special deal with LG that will allow them to have the device in-store on March 30th. For the rest of us, that in-store date is April 7th.

Until the official unveiling of the Galaxy S8 from Samsung at the Galaxy Unpacked events in New York and London on March 29th, the G6 has been the phone that has generated the most buzz, thus far, this year. And, though the HTC U Ultra has its fans, plus a large number of detractors, LG seems to have the current ‘lock’ on anticipation. It was probably smart for LG to get the G6 out of the gate before the S8. Though they just barely got out ahead of Samsung, I THINK it will pay off in sales for the number two South Korean handset manufacturer.  We’ll see.

For myself, I am very excited to get my hands on the G6, as are many of my YouTube contemporaries. Yes, the ‘big’ Tubers have all had the pre-production version for a few weeks and many have already reviewed it. But, for the rest of us, the excitement for this phone has had us giddy with anticipation, like a kid with his nose pressed against the toy store window. It remains to be seen if we have bought into the hype or, if this 5.7 inch, 18.9 ratio screen is all that we expect. Some of the video and still pictures that I’ve seen, have also made me think that the G6 camera will be something truly special.

The T-Mobile representative told me to expect it to be delivered on April 3rd or 4th, which pleased me greatly, since that is still days ahead of the in-store date. By the way, it seems that all of the providers are giving away a Google Home speaker to everyone who pre-orders the device, courtesy of LG. If the LG G6 comes even close to what I and others expect, it should be a good seller and one of the phones to beat for 2017. Stay tuned.
