Back to the Basics

Tonight (Feb. 27, 2011) I had the opportunity to speak during the Youth Group Service at Christ Church International in Dothan, AL. Got put this message of “Back to the Basics” on my heart for a number of reasons. Some of the reasons are pointed out below in my notes, but also just to hit on some of the main reasons are:

1-Its important to know who were in Christ.

2- Establishes a firm foundation to build on.

3- Allows us to get a temp check.

4- Teaches and refreshes so we can reach others for Christ and lead them in a loving relationship with Christ.

I want CCi’s youth to become a group that stands out and has a heart to serve. I want this group to reach out and minister to people in need! God is doing something…He is leading me somewhere…stiring in me and re-establishing the talents and giftings He has given me. I want to do my part in The Kingdom of God and I want to make a difference in the lives of people around me. CCi has SO much potential and can go SO far in the Kingdom of God. Its time for the Church Body to take ownership of the gifts and positions God has given us to advance in the Kingdom of God.

I’m looking forward to sharing with the group again next week. I’ll be building off of what we talked about tonight (unless God changes direction).

Below are the sermon notes and thoughts that I shared with the group. Scriptures were found via @YouVersion Bible App. I highly recommend downloading the App on your smartphone, Google Chrome Web Browser, iPod, iPad and tablet devices. You can also access the app at YouVersion.com. Great resource and lets you have the Bible just about anywhere you go!

Romans 1:16

For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.t

Romans 2:4

Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?

Romans 3:23

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

Romans 5:8

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

Romans 10:9-10

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.

Romans 8:16-17

For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. 17 And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.

Romans 8:38-39

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, tneither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Does salvation end there?

What are some ways that you can keep in relationship with God?

Grow closer to God and anything that is “wrong” in your life will fade and ween itself off of you.

God put this on my heart to share with you because sometimes we need to get back to the basics. Salvation through Christ is our foundation.

Sometimes we assume that someone is saved, even ourselves. That always is not true.

*MY TESTIMONY*

In future meeting we will chat about some more basics

God has some really cool plans for this group, but before we can advance, we need to nail down some basic foundations in our group and also our personal lives.

*YOUR TESTIMONY*

We need to be able to share our own testimony

Write down your testimony
