I don’t want to beat a dead horse (this was in Texas, after all), but as this was my first BABBQ AND my first mobile conference, I wanted to sum up my thoughts.
I knew that I had great anticipation and excitement for the event, but I was blown away by the same enthusiasm of others, some of which have been in the business of reviewing tech for a long time. To see the genuine love and passion for phones and tech from people like Colt McAnlis, Russell Holly, Jerry Hildenbrand, Rootjunky, Joshua Bane, TK Bay and many, many others with no jaded attitudes, after having been involved in great depth for a number of collective years was truly a joy to behold.
Then, there were the companies involved like Cyanogen, Robin, OPPO, Facebook, Android File Host, XDAdevelopers, HTC, Swappa, Limefuel, Nuu and more, who all showed a welcoming friendliness and attitude of inclusion that was wonderful to be a part of. All the reps and presenters made me (and, I’m sure everyone else) feel like we were all a part of a vibrant and exciting community.
A special shout out to Scott Jarmus of Nuu Mobile for the time he took speaking with Joshua Bane, Tom (Rootjunky) and myself, showing us his phones and answering all of our questions. Also to Jerry Hildenbrand for just taking the time to chat with me for quite a while and allowing me to go hands on with the Nexus 6P. Especially, since I’m still waiting for mine to ship.
All-in-all, the food was great, the presentations and sessions were informative and enlightening and the people best of all. I could not have asked for a better introduction to mobile conferences and the Big Android Barbeque specifically.
If you get the chance to go to next year’s BABBQ, I highly suggest you take it. You’ll certainly see me there.
