Its a good idea to make an iCloud and computer backup of your current iPhone if you are planning to purchase the new iPhone 5. Part of the activation of the iPhone is restoring data from a backup. If you have a current backup of your device your new iPhone 5 will be ready to go as soon as activated. All contacts, apps and iPhoto pics will be pushed directly to your brand spankin new iPhone 5.
