Welax S9

Tall Editor Reviews the Welax S9: Breathable, but is it Comfortable?

We have all been there. You’re deep into a complex timeline, the render bar is moving at a snail’s pace, and you suddenly realize your lower back has checked out, and your neck is screaming.

As a video production business owner and editor, my studio is my command center. When I’m in the zone, the last thing I need is a chair that fights me.

Being 6’3″ and working in the humid Southeast, the search for the perfect ergonomics is… intense. It seems most chairs are designed for anyone but the “taller than average” crowd.

When Omidi Furniture sent out the Welax S9 Ergonomic Chair, I was cautiously optimistic. Could a chair finally offer the vertical adjustments I need, while also surviving the humidity?

Here is my honest, “creator-to-creator” take on whether the Welax S9 is a true studio game changer—or just another polished advertisement.

The Build Quality: German Mesh vs. Southeast Humidity

Let’s start with the immediate wins. The build feels robust. It features a heavy-duty nylon base and German-imported mesh. This isn’t the kind of mesh that will sag after two months.

But the real advantage of that mesh? Breathability.

If you live in a warm, humid climate, you know the absolute horror of a leather chair in the afternoon. You’re sticking to it, you’re overheating, and your concentration is gone. The S9’s mesh provides fantastic airflow. It keeps the studio temperature comfortable, even during focused editing sessions.

The Fit: A 6’3″ Verdict on Ergonomics

This is the make-or-break section for me. I need specific vertical real estate that most chairs just don’t have. The S9 has a neat trick up its sleeve: a 5-level adjustable backrest.

This is critical. It allows you to raise the entire ergonomic structure (lumbar support and upper frame) to align perfectly with a taller spine. My standard experience is that lumbar support hits me mid-back, which is useless. With the S9, I can finally lock it in at the base of my spine.

Features That Creators Will Like:

  • Seat Depth Adjustment: A massive benefit for longer legs, ensuring proper support without compressing your circulation.

  • 6D Armrests: While they are perhaps slightly over-engineered, they move up, down, forward, and twist, allowing you to support your forearms perfectly while you use a control surface or keyboard.

  • Intuitive “One-Touch” Control: Ditch the confusing knobs. A single lever handles height, depth, and tilt. It makes adjustments fast and fluid.

The Ultimate Render Tool: The Footrest

Every video editor needs a moment of pause. Whether you’re waiting for an export or reviewing a final cut, you need to recline.

The S9 features a sturdy, extendable footrest. You can recline the backrest to 130 degrees (approaching a “zero-gravity” feel), kick out the footrest, and review your timeline in comfort. It’s sturdy enough to feel stable under my weight, and it’s a genuinely great feature for taking high-intensity breaks.

Final Verdict: Why It’s (Not) My Favorite

The Welax S9 is an undeniably premium piece of studio gear. The mesh is cooling, the height adjustments for a 6’3″ frame are some of the best I’ve seen, and the build is solid.

However, I’m being honest with you: This is not my new primary chair.

While it does so many things right, it’s not what I’m switching to. Finding the “perfect” chair is incredibly subjective, especially at my height, and this one didn’t quite take the top spot in the end.

BUT: If you are over 6 feet tall, if you battle humidity in your studio, and if you need professional-grade lumbar support that actually moves where you need it, the Welax S9 is an absolute contender to consider.

In addition, my assistant at the studio prefers this chair. So while it’s not my top choice, it is still a great option. He likes the comfort, armrests, and mesh material.
