Every creator NEEDS the Moonside MagLight in their mobile photography and video kit! I love products that check off multiple boxes, and this practical light definitely does a few tasks every creator needs. Step back for a second and think of the essentials for creating mobile photography and videos. You’re going to need the following…
- Lighting
- Stabilization
- Battery life
- Portability
That’s what’s so impressive about the Moonside MagLight. It checks off all those boxes!
Lighting
Well, this is a light. Most portable lights like this are just lights; some are RGB and give some control over intensity and temperature. The MagLight does all this, plus more. You can control this light with an app or home controls like Google Home. It’s got some pretty cool customization and intelligent features.
Another practical feature of MagLight is the light on the back. This light helps illuminate your face for the front-facing camera. When taking selfies or talking to the camera, you can shine more light on your face to create better lighting conditions than no light or screen lighting.
However, if you can help it, frame yourself with the primary camera on the back of the phone and use the more considerable light for higher-quality images. You can use a smartwatch to monitor your rear-facing camera.

Other subjects
When I got this light, one of the people I thought of right away was my photographer friend Chelsea Geilsman, who is a food blogger. She always carries around a small light for times when she needs a little extra light in situations where it’s not a planned shoot. This way she is always prepared. I was working an event with Chelsea when I learned this about her, and she had to use one hand to operate her phone camera and the other to hold the light. I think she would appreciate this light because she could mount the light on the phone and frame up her shot without needing two hands for two items.
Stabilization
Let’s say the light might look better from an angle rather than direct. There is an option for a small tripod accessory to hold the light or phone. The stand is MagSafge compatible. What’s cool about the MagPod is that you can mount the light and a phone on both sides. You can use it as a combo stand for the light and phone or just one item at a time. It all depends on how you want to use it.

Battery life
It’s common knowledge that using your phone to capture content drains the phone’s life. The convenience of the MagLight is that it’s not just a light but a battery pack, too. And it’s passthrough! So you can charge the light while charging the phone! This means only one cable is needed to carry it around.
The MagLight is a 4,000mAh power bank. This is clutch for charging the phone while lighting up the scene. If you’re concerned about monitoring the battery life of the MagLight, you can see the percentage using the app.

Portability
As mobile content creators, we don’t want to carry much gear. The MagLight is small—about the same size as most other power banks or a deck of cards. It doesn’t take up much space and can quickly become part of your everyday carry kit. The Creator pack has some extra stuff, but even those things don’t take up too much space. I wish the Creator Kit had its only carry case to keep everything together. But if you have something like a tech pouch, that would work perfectly.
Final Thoughts
Take your mobile photography and video creation to the next level with the Moonside MagLight. This all-in-one tool offers lighting, battery life, stabilization, and portability. My constructive criticism is that the Creator Kit needs to include a carry case for all the items.
Secondly, I think the white balance temps must be more accurate. I would not rely on what the app says about a specific temperature.

Lastly, I believe the magnets need to be stronger. It’s not weak, but some more intense magnets would give me a little more peace of mind that the items won’t fall off each other.
This light can be helpful in many ways concerning lighting and battery life. It’s a tool I think every mobile creator needs in their kit.
