It means we are all equal in the eyes of Jesus Christ, and as Christians and followers of Him we are all equally bound by the Word of God and all equally responsible to die to self, take up our cross, and go forth in the Holy Spirit to make disciples so that He may be glorified.
Luke 9:23-24 says, “Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.”
Call me ignorant, but I lack a worldly understanding as to why some Christians are going outside and saying that homosexuality is ok when it would be sickening for a man to go outside and zealously proclaim his dire lust for women, even the point of rape and/or pedophilia. Sin is sin, folks. A man who has a girlfriend and commits fornication among other sins is just as shameful to our God than a man who marries a man, or a woman who marries a woman. My question is simple, brothers and sisters: Have we become so brainwashed by society into saying that it’s ok to cherry-pick from the Word of God? Then why is not one sin socially acceptable to be celebrated rather than the other?
1 Corinthians 6:7-11 says, “Now therefore, it is already an utter failure for you that you go to law against one another. Why do you not rather accept wrong? Why do you not rather let yourselves be cheated? No, you yourselves do wrong and cheat, and you do these things to your brethren Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.”
That said, I want to point to the Good News: We are all saved by God’s grace, rather than by our works. Our God loves us so much, He is willing to forgive and forget out sins so that we may live eternally with Him, Amen? However, we need to take heed to something. Look at what the Word says about habitual sin – sin that is committed over and over and over again with no conviction from the Holy Spirit attached to it.
2 Corinthians 5:17-21 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
We Christians must hold fast to God’s Word. I believe that we, first and foremost, have a responsibility in Jesus to love our neighbors regardless of what their sin is, and regardless of how society views us. We can love on a saved homosexual the same way we can love on a saved ex-con, without judging them. However, my point is that if we are not, or no longer, convicted of a sin that is listed in God’s Word, we need to check our hearts and take inventory. Are we holding onto our pride? Are we refusing to let go of the old man and give God our all? We can’t say “well, it’s in our nature,” or “well, I was born that way,” because we are reborn in Jesus Christ. In Him we have no bondage but that of our Master, and that is a good and promising bondage! Neither side can judge. We all have our own hang-ups, folks. A man may feel he cannot resist another man, but what that man fails to see is that his neighbor cannot resist getting yet another woman in bed! It doesn’t matter if you’re straight or gay, it’s sin. And we as brothers and sisters in Christ are called to bear their burdens and love them as Christ commanded us to.
I just pray this is a wakeup call to those (namely fellow Christians) who believe homosexuality is right. I’m not posting this to judge you. I’m not homophobic – I have a gay friend or two, and I’ve roomed with a gay man before, but I know the truth. I know what God’s word says. Don’t live in habitual sin and give yourself excuses to say it’s “just who you are.” Don’t keep putting it off and assuming God isn’t hurting over your habitual sin. Our sins pain Him, especially if we don’t repent of them. If you’re a Bible-believing Christian, it’s in the Word. Put your eyes on Christ. Die to the old man and live in the new man so that we may be used to glorify Him and be equipped for every good work, Amen?
