Speaking of Evergreen, I needed to record a video showcasing how a hat is water-resistant. So I thought a slow-motion video would do the trick. I also was super curious to find out which slow-motion camera would do best between the iPhone 13 Pro Max vs Pixel 6 Pro vs GoPro Hero8 + Sony FX3.
I’ll play through the video clips one by one, side by side, without any edits other than maybe a crop to fit in this video. Then I will show a final result of what I plan to turn in to the client.

My prediction is that I will like the look of the Sony FX3, but the iPhone 13 Pro Max will give a great slow-motion effect. Let’s see how it all looks!
Things to keep in mind.
- The editing app is Final Cut Pro X
- 24fps timeline
- All cameras shot in 4k other than the GoPro which was at 1080p 240fps. iPhone and Pixel were on slow-motion modes.
- When dropping into the timeline, the iPhone footage was already slowed down. The Pixel I had to manually slow down, which was set to 50%. The FX3 was shot at 4k 120fps and slowed down to 50%. The GoPro slowed down to 10%.

So what did you think?
After cleaning up the videos, I was shocked at how well the GoPro footage turned out! I was able to blow out the whites and keep a good amount of detail on the hat, which also made it a little easier to mask out the drink cans on the sides.
FX3 footage is what I favor the most. I like the clean detail on the hat, being able to make better manual in-camera adjustments, and the editing was just easier to work with.
The phone images though, the footage is good, but I don’t think match up to the FX3 or GoPro. The image was tougher to edit with white balance, details, etc.
I was able to blow out the white background pretty easily on the phone and GoPro videos. But it was nice to get all the adjustments done with the FX3 in camera, then make minor adjustments in post.
So which camera should I use to turn into the client?
Three of us at the studio were definitely surprised at the results. Overall, we like the GoPro video the best. The slow-motion was butter and the way the drips fell over the hat looked great.
What’s crazy is the GoPro Hero8 is two years old and the cheapest camera of them all.
I will say this. Prep time, lighting, and knowing some decent editing skills go a long way. If I were to choose straight out of the camera, the FX3 definitely wins IMO.
