Photographers! Stop using on-camera lights for your lighting!!! Especially if you’re working alongside a videographer. I mean, more than likely, if you are working with a good videographer they will have a light on a stand that both of yall can benefit from. With that being said, here are the top 3 ways to use an on-camera light. However, I do want to touch on why you shouldn’t use the light on your camera.
- First, you need to learn off-camera flash. If you’re a legit photographer, you need to learn on and off-camera flash. “I’m an only natural light photographer”
- Second, putting the light on your camera does not give consistent lighting
- Next, the subject looking right at the light can cause unflattering responses.
- If you are working with a videographer, we HATE having the light turn off and on, along with the light moving around.

How To Properly Use an On-Camera LED Light
- Don’t put the light on your camera. Put it on a light stand. This will give way more control over how the light looks.
- Backlight lighting for subjects. Hair light. Etc.
- Remove shadows on a background or spaces
- Props such as the police light or party light
