MWC 2017 – some of what we’re expecting

It’s right around the corner at this point. Mobile World Congress 2017 officially begins on February 27th and runs through March 3rd, but there are a few big events in the days before. And there’s a lot to look forward to.

MWC 2017 – What’s expected

On Saturday, February 25th Blackberry has their big event scheduled to launch the Blackberry Mercury or DTEK70, as you may have heard it called. This will be a big deal for them, since it’s a fully Android phone with the Blackberry keyboard. The actual making of the phone has been fully handed over to TLC, so expect something very akin to the Alcatel Idol brand.

On February 26th Huawei, Samsung, Motorola, LG and ZTE all have events scheduled.

The biggest hitter here is, of course, Samsung with the expected launch of the Galaxy S8. Expected specs courtesy of Techno Buffalo are:

And the Samsung Tab S3 is also expected.

For Huawei, the P10 is the big flagship device for the event with Huawei already posting a teaser on You Tube:

Google has also added to Huawei’s thunder with the confirmation of the Huawei Daydream VR Headset.

Meanwhile LG has declared the 26th of February as LG G6 day. This is a pretty big deal for LG, after the sales letdown for the G5.

Motorola is rumored to be launching the Moto G5:

And for ZTE the ZTE Quartz smartwatch is expected:

This is ZTE’s first foray into the smartwatch game. I have had a number of ZTE phones, so I hope that the watch lives up to the pleasurable experiences that I have had with the previous devices.

Nokia has an event on February 27th. They have already released the Nokia 6 in China:

For MWC, they are expected to announce the Nokia P1 (possibly named the Nokia 8):

Sony also has an event on the 27th with the expectation of an updated Xperia X. But there’s also talk of five separate devices that may be announced.  Still rumor, of course.

All of the above are based on scheduled events for MWC 2017 with a bit of rumor mill thrown in. We’ll all know more in the next few days and, as usual, we’re very excited to see what’s coming.
