The Essential Phone – Andy Rubin listening

Back on June 1st, I asked “Essential – will it be that for you?”  Essential is the new company of Android co-founder, Andy Rubin and they announced their new phone on May 31st, saying that it would be ready for purchase by the public within the next month. Everyone knows that did NOT happen and a number of us have written articles bemoaning the fact. Last week, I published, “Essential Phone – now you see it – no you don’t.”  Well, it seems that Mr. Rubin and his associates were listening since, yesterday, those of us who had signed up to reserve a phone received the following email:

Hi George,
I personally wanted to thank you for putting your name down for our first phone. We’ve been hard at work getting everything ready and the good news is that we’re now going through certification and testing with multiple US and international carriers.
You might be getting impatient to get your hands on your new Essential Phone (and I’m also impatient to get it to you!) but rest assured that you will have a device in your hands in a few weeks.
In the meantime, give us a shout out using #thisisessential to show the team that sweating the details and working long hours to get this device shipped is worth it.
Andy

So, we suddenly have hope that the device will be forthcoming in the very near future. If you’re not aware of the specs of the Essential Phone, here is a link to the website: https://www.essential.com/

Part of the excitement is the device’s build (titanium body – a first as far as I know), the camera embedded into the front screen and 4K recording capability included in both the front and rear cameras. Check the specifications for yourself and you’ll find that this device seems quite unique.

But, the purpose of this article is to say, “Thank you for listening” to Andy Rubin and the Essential team. It’s not often that a corporation, new or old, responds to clamor and/or criticism in such a timely manner and I for one think Essential deserves kudos for doing so.

So, to Andy Rubin and your team I say, your communication efforts are appreciated and we are excited. My hope is that the Essential Phone is as great as it’s specs suggest and that you have a very successful and lucrative future.
