Amazon Wand – a smart little kitchen accessory

We recently picked up the Amazon Wand (formerly the Amazon Dash Wand), which is basically a little stick for ordering more products from Amazon. You must be a Prime member, but if you are, it just makes the ordering process a bit quicker and more seamless. And, beyond being able to simply scan an item to reorder or just speak it, it also has Alexa built in.

Of course, THAT makes it handy for asking Alexa what the current weather is, finding the nearest Mexican restaurant, asking how old Jeff Bezos is, and all of the questions that one would ask the Echo or Echo Dot. In the kitchen, it becomes even more handy, since you can ask for a specific recipe for a dish. Alexa will then search its vast database and will, most likely, come back with hundreds or even thousands of answers, helping you to narrow it down to the specific recipe preferred.

The Wand is small and thin (not much bigger than a Fire Stick) and comes with a plastic hook that you can attach to the refrigerator (or anything else), then hang the Wand on it for easy accessibility. It’s battery operated (two triple A’s), so it’s easy to carry around from room to room or even outside. Keep in mind that you’ll need to stay within the range of your WiFi, as it operates just as the Amazon Echo does.

I’d say that this is just another small step towards Amazon getting us all more and more used to the idea of ordering from home, without the need to go to a brick and mortar store. But, it seems to be the way of the future and, as a Prime customer for a few years, I’m already quite used to ordering with the click of a mouse or button.  So, speaking my desired product or pushing the button on the Amazon Wand is fine with me.

Here’s the video my wife and I made about it today on my Mobile Geezer channel.

All-in-all the Wand strikes us as a handy, smart little gadget which may become more and more useful as time passes. $20 on Amazon for Prime members. If you like Alexa, this may be for you.
